After impressing with its Mate XT tri-fold smartphone last year, Huawei is gearing up for a new product launch event next month.
In preparation for the smartphone’s arrival, Huawei ’s consumer group president Yu Chengdong said the company would introduce “unbelievable products” this year. He also revealed that a special product will be launched in March that promises to excite consumers across China, forcing them to “rush to buy” the product.
Huawei is trying hard to gain smartphone market share in China.
During last year's annual meeting, Yu Chengdong hinted that the new product would be a smartphone, which has sparked speculation that it could be the Pocket 3 clamshell-style folding smartphone. Speculations suggest that the Pocket 3's release date is expected to coincide with the time after the Lunar New Year, which is February or March.
Yu Chengdong stressed that the product will be sold at a low price, making it accessible to everyone. Information from a source said that the Pocket 3 will have a thinner, smaller and lighter design than the Pocket 2 version. However, a major challenge for Huawei is the application processor issue as the company is still affected by US sanctions, preventing them from accessing advanced chip manufacturing technology.
Pocket 3 will be the smartphone model that Huawei is about to launch?
Last year, Huawei became the top foldable smartphone maker globally in Q1, but Samsung regained the position in Q3. If the Pocket 3 is truly the groundbreaking innovation Huawei promises, the company could once again lead the foldable smartphone market.
The Pocket 3 is expected to compete with other foldable smartphones such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Motorola Razr+ (2024), and Honor Magic V3. Huawei's constant innovation, despite the sanctions, has the tech world eagerly awaiting what the company will announce in the near future.
